James Gunn has given us our first look at David Corenswet as Superman in next summer’s Superman, the first entry in DC’s new film universe which Gunn and Peter Safran are leading as the DC Studios heads.
Corenswet was chosen as Clark Kent/Superman last year, filling the boots that have previously held Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill on the big screen. The photo sees Clark donning the Superman suit while behind him some mysterious weapon threatens Metropolis.
Gunn revealed the image on Instagram and said the photo “was taken by [Jessica Miglio] @jessmigliophoto, our intrepid still photographer, and is entirely in-camera.”
Superman tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
Superman stars David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer, Wendell Pierce as Perry White and Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell as Jonathan and Martha Kent.
Superman will be released on July 25th, 2025.
