The Flickering Myth Team react…
The final trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice landed yesterday – and the Internet exploded in praise. It’s fair to say that the trailers prior to this one (the last one in particular) split audiences with some thinking it was pretty great, while others thinking it was a spoiler filled waste of time. This one, however, seems universally loved.
But what did the writing staff of Flickering Myth think?
Chris Cooper: I’m over the moon with it. The first 45 seconds alone show how well they understand Batman. His movement, his fighting, even his attitude towards Alfred. It’s fantastic. The rest goes by in a bit of a blur, but the look on Superman’s face when he gets blocked. ‘That’s never happened before’! This should have been the trailer released before. We didn’t need the previous one.
Ricky Church: I actually said on Twitter that as much as I love the fighting in The Dark Knight Trilogy, BvS’ Batman is how I’ve always wanted to see him fight on screen. Looks very much like the Arkham games, he even uses a batarang mid-fight!
Chris Cooper: I’d write in caps if I could, such is the amount of excitement that initial scene ignited in me. The Alfred chat and remote control, the pitch of the Batwing, the speed and aggression of the fighting, plus using the environment. It looks fantastic.
Villordsutch: I’ve been a neighsayer of Batman v Superman over the previous few trailers, but this trailer – I have to admit – made it look rather splendid. Especially with Batman’s more Batman-like take down at the start, that along with the Alfred quips after the mayhem. Then of course we have Bruce’s smirk as Superman looks a wee bit confused at the punch not connecting in the closing scenes.
Ricky Church: This was also the first time we heard Gal Gadot speak in any of the trailers. Gotta say, I love how she has none of Bruce’s flirting
Chris Cooper: The look Bruce shoots Alfred in the cave. I love it! Damn, Batman wise at least, this could be it. I had faith in Snyder directing a fight after Watchmen, but this proves it. He’s got a good handle on how Batman should move.
Ricky Church: It was very smart to start this trailer off with that sequence. Very tense, action packed and both fans and mainstream audiences will love that beginning. Batman is WB’s moneymaker and they want to show audiences they’ve done Batman right in this film.
Christopher Sanderson: They had some pretty huge shoes to fill after Nolan’s universe. But I think they’ve nailed it. Cant wait to see the extent of the Bat in Suicide Squad.
Tai Freligh: Looks unbelievable! IAnd how about Clark jumping in the tub with Lois??
Ricky Church: I definitely love this trailer. The SDCC trailer might still be my favourite, but this comes very, very close to topping it. You get to see a lot of great stuff here like, as Tai mentioned, Clark and Lois’ romance, Bruce and Alfred banter and Wonder Woman interacting with Bruce. I think this was also definitely the right time to show a tiny bit more of Gal Gadot. I wouldn’t blame people for thinking she’ll steal the show.
Gary Collinson: It’s a fantastic trailer. Much, much better than the previous one. I echo what’s been said about the opening fight sequence, superb stuff, and I really liked the expressions on Batman and Superman’s faces when the punch is blocked at the end. An excellent job from Warner Bros. here, and I’m sure they’ve managed to convince a lot of people who were on the fence.
Anghus Houvouras: Holy hell was Warner Brothers taking their sweet time. They were damn close to whiffing with all the previous marketing, but they finally managed to produce a hit. A good trailer is about balance. You got action, humor, and some nice character moments. They showed enough to get you excited but not enough to give too much away. The big mistake was the Zod/Doomsday reveal in the last one. This trailer didn’t feel the need to connect all the dots and leave some surprises for the final film.
David Fleming: This should have been the first trailer. Finally something to get excited about.
Christopher Sanderson: That last trailer was the worst in terms of spoilers. My first reaction was, this is going to be the same. But my God have they made this film look amazing. I couldn’t be any more excited to see Affleck as Batman and Irons as Alfred! Cannot wait for this movie, and believe me I was one of the biggest haters of this movie until now.
Ricky Church: That last few comments are very indicative of what you just said, Gary. I think we’ll be seeing a surge in talk about the film thanks to this trailer, especially if it will be paired with Deadpool this weekend.
Tai Freligh: This trailer was amazing. It really should have been the first one. The last few trailers (and TV spots for that matter) really focused on one small confrontation between Batman and Superman and was starting to get old. I love how most of this trailer was brand new footage. We saw Bruce and Alfred’s relationship, Batman fighting and using his toys, Diana Prince actually speaking and easily handling Bruce’s advances, Clark and Lois romance, a few scenes where Superman is blocking bullets and throws armoured Batman across the ground, but then at the end you see him getting a punch blocked and the look on his face was priceless. I think, like Zack Snyder said, there is a LOT more to this movie than has been seen in the trailers and this latest one should really dispel any naysayers or people on the fence about the movie. If it is indeed attached to Deadpool, like the rumour is, then it will get everybody talking.
