If you didn’t know, Robert Downey Jr. is open to more Iron Man.
Could Tony Stark’s death and Downey’s Marvel retirement be coming to an end? The more it is mentioned, the more it seems true. One of the conversation points in most interviews with actors these days has to touch on a return to the MCU, and his latest sit-down with Jodie Foster for Variety’s Actors on Actors was no different.
During his conversation with Foster, the actress inquires about RDJ’s willingness to return.
He replies, “It’s just crazily in my DNA. [Tony Stark is] Probably the most like-me character I’ve ever played, even though he’s way cooler than I am. I’ve become surprisingly open-minded to the idea.”
This aligns with the actor’s comments a few months back, using the DNA line and adding, “That role chose me. And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige.”
Downey played Iron Man across ten films of the MCU. His first appearance was in 2008’s seminal film Iron Man. By 2019, he wrapped up his time at Marvel (for now) with the iconic Avengers: Endgame. With the multiverse opening up leading into Avengers: Secret Wars, the return could work and lessen the blow of reversing the iconic death in Endgame.
The next project for Marvel Studios will be Deadpool & Wolverine, the only theatrical MCU release of 2024. Check out the rest of the Actors on Actors interview below…
