Bad news for fans of the sci-fi western series Outer Range. Amazon MGM has cancelled the series after its two seasons on Prime Video, which saw Josh Brolin leading the cast in a strange mystery set on his family ranch.
Outer Range premiered in Prime in 2022 and its second season had just premiered in May with all of its 7 episodes dropping at once. The second season proved to be quite popular for its first two weeks according to the Nielsen Streaming Originals ratings, with the show being #3 its first week and dropping to #8 its second.
No reason has been given for its cancellation or from its cast and crew. It was created by Charles Murray who served as showrunner and even had Brad Pitt as an executive producer. Brolin also made his directorial debut with season two’s penultimate episode.
Season two of Outer Range “goes deeper into the mystery surrounding the enigmatic void on the west pasture of the Abbott family ranch, as Royal (Brolin) and his wife Cecelia (Lili Taylor) struggle to keep their family together in the aftermath of their granddaughter’s sudden disappearance. The stakes have never been higher for the Abbotts, who now face threats on multiple fronts. Outer Range’s second season propels its characters deeper into the void with profound and unforeseen circumstances that could shake the very foundations of time itself.”
Outer Range also starred Imogen Poots, Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, Isabel Arraiza, Olive Abercrombie, Will Patton, Christian James, Megan West, Daniel Abeles, Kimberly Guerrero and Monette Moio.
Outer Range can be streamed on Prime Video.
