Netflix are working on a series adaptation of Vault Comics’ Barbaric, and have tapped up Michael Bay to direct Sam Clafin (Daisy Jones & the Six) and Patrick Stewart (X-Men) in the lead roles.
Published in 2021, and created by writer Michael Moreci and co-creator and artist Nathan Gooden, Barbaric tells the story of Owen the Barbarian (Clafin), who is under a witches’ curse to make amends for his murderous past. His bloodthirsty talking Axe (voiced by Stewart) is his moral compass, and he’ll do whatever it takes to do good, even it if it means cleaving a few skulls.
According to Deadline the medieval fantasy series is in early development, but Netflix are once again hoping to collaborate with Michael Bay, who spent $150 million of subscriber money on 2019 Ryan Reynolds action-dud 6 Underground. Barbaric would mark his first foray into the world of small-screen television.
Sheldon Turner, who has Up in the Air and X-Men: First Class on his CV, will write the adaptation, as well as producing the series under his A+E Studios banner along with Jennifer Klein’s 100% Productions.
