If you thought you were taking an adult night to Bedrock, the plan is dead before arrival.
Sources close to TVLine report that the adult-themed animated series set in The Flintstones universe is no longer moving forward. Reports have the series as a new take on the classic cartoon that updated the “modern Stone Age family” twenty years later past their original timeline. We’d have seen Fred Flintstone on the brink of retirement and twentysomething Pebbles enjoying her adult life.
Lindsay Kerns (DC Super Hero Girls) penned the project, initially announced in 2021, with Elizabeth Banks executive producing.
“As the Stone Age gives way to a shiny and enlightened new Bronze Age, the residents of Bedrock will find this evolution harder than a swing from Bamm-Bamm’s club,” according to the official Bedrock synopsis.
Stephen Root was slated to voice the iconic Fred, while Amy Sedaris brought his wife, Wilma, to life. The rest of the announced voice cast includes Nicole Byer as Betty, Joe Lo Truglio as Barney, Elizabeth Banks as the voice of Pebbles, and Manny Jacinto, who was assigned to Bamm-Bamm.
The Flintstones began in 1960 and ran for six seasons on ABC and then for decades in syndicated reruns.
