Danny McBride and Edi Patterson, the duo behind The Righteous Gemstones, could have another cult hit on their hands.
Deadline reports that McBride and Patterson will head a comedy series for HBO based on The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires, based on Grady Hendrix’s New York Times bestseller.
The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires follows a group of Southern housewives who form a book club to discuss true crime novels. Their lives take a chilling turn when a mysterious new neighbor, who harbors a sinister secret, arrives in their quiet town. As the women uncover the truth about him being a vampire, they must band together to confront and defeat the supernatural threat while balancing their everyday lives and relationships. It is set in the 1990s and described as “Steel Magnolias meets Dracula.”
If the name sounds familiar, Hendrix is the author of several horror-tinged novels, including My Best Friend’s Exorcism, adapted for film in 2022. His next book, Witchcraft For Wayward Witches, is set for release on January 14th.
This adaptation of The Southern Book Club’s Guide was previously being developed at Amazon with Patrick Moran’s PKM Productions but has since shifted to Warner Bros Discovery’s HBO, with no involvement from Moran.
