Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Tom Hardy to star in Jo Nesbo adaptation Blood on Snow

September 8, 2024 by Gary Collinson

Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Tom Hardy are set to team with No Time to Die director Cary Fukunaga for Blood on Snow, an adaptation of the bestselling crime novel from Jo Nesbo.

The film, which is being shopped to potential buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival, will be set in 1970s Olso and see Taylor-Johnson taking on the role of a hitman caught between two rival gang leaders (one played by Hardy in a supporting role) amid a deadly gang war. The synopsis reads:

“Hoffman’s trusted hitman, Olav (Johnson), is a cold, efficient killer, perfect for the job. But beneath his ruthless exterior lies an unexpected intelligence and an unwavering moral code shaped by a complicated childhood…When Hoffman orders his own wife to be murdered, Olav’s principles clash with his loyalties. Instead of pulling the trigger, he hatches a scheme that makes him Hoffman’s next target and with nowhere safe to turn, Olav forms an uneasy alliance that places him at the heart of Oslo’s deadly gang war. Once a violent enforcer, Olav’s choice makes him an unlikely hero in a world where no good deed goes unpunished.”

A feature adaptation of Blood on Snow was previously announced back in 2017, which was being earmarked as the directorial debut of Tobey Maguire, although it failed to materialise.

Norwegian author Nesbo is writing the script for this new take, as well as producing alongside Hardy, Fukunaga and Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer of Department M, which is financing.
