Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for Gladiator II, the eagerly-anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 Oscar-winning epic which follows the journey of Lucius (Paul Mescal), the son of Russell Crowe’s Maximus, as he is forced into slavery and sets out to fight as a gladiator to seek vengeance against those that invaded his home; watch it below…
Several decades after the events of Gladiator (2000), Lucius—the grandson of Rome’s former emperor Marcus Aurelius and son of Lucilla—lives with his wife and child in Numidia. Roman soldiers led by General Marcus Acacius invaded, forcing Lucius into slavery. Inspired by the story of Maximus, as depicted in the original 2000 film, Lucius resolves to fight as a gladiator while opposing the rule of the young emperors Caracalla and Geta.
Gladiator II sees Paul Mescal leading a cast that also includes Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou, Matt Lucas, and Derek Jacobi.
