Idris Elba has stared down lions in Beast, a plane full of terrorists in Hijack, and stood watch over Asgard in the MCU, and now the Emmy-nominated actor is set to play………a truck driver.
According to The Hollywood Reporter Elba will get behind the wheel to star in and produce an action movie titled Hammer Down.
The film will mark the directorial debut of Simon Hatt, who has been a producer on the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 and The Suicide Squad, and has developed the feature film from his own short, which told the story of a widowed truck driver who was attempting to deliver a mysterious package.
The official synopsis for Hammer Down reads “Mac (Elba) is the best at what he does, driving a big rig truck across the country with a “no questions asked” policy about the goods he transports. When he takes his tenacious teenage daughter along for a job, they are tracked and attacked by a relentless group of criminals that will stop at nothing to secure the consignment he has been entrusted to deliver. Pursued by both criminals and the police, Mac and his daughter must work together to prevent the cargo falling into dangerous hands and survive to live another day.”
Next up for Elba is a second season of hit Apple TV+ drama Hijack, a resumption of his duties voicing Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and a role in Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled Netflix film.
