Buzz buzz…The Fly has entered the room.
Deadline reports that Nikyatu Jusu is developing a new film based on David Cronenberg’s 1986 masterwork. While there are no plot details, the outlet noted that it’s set in the universe of Cronenberg’s film.
Nikyatu Jusu will direct from her script, with Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping producing from Chernin Entertainment. The filmmaker is best known for her psychological horror film Nanny starring Anna Diop; it won the Grand Jury Prize in U.S. Dramatic Competition in 2022.
The Fly, directed by David Cronenberg, is a body-horror film about a scientist, Seth Brundle, played by Jeff Goldblum, who is working on a teleportation device. An accident causes Brundle’s DNA to be mixed with that of a fly, beginning his transformation into something horrific. It was based on George Langelaan’s 1957 short story, which was adapted into the 1958 film starring Vincent Price.
In addition to The Fly, Nikyatu Jusu will soon direct a project for Monkeypaw and Universal, but it still has no official title. She’s also attached to a Night of the Living Dead sequel that MGM acquired the rights to make.
