Joel McHale to play Sidney’s husband in Scream 7

Sidney Prescott’s husband Mark is set to feature in Scream 7, but despite the teases in the 2022 and 2023 instalments, it’s not the widely speculated Detective Mark Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey) from Scream 4, but rather the new character Mark Evans, set to be portrayed by Community and The Bear’s Joel McHale.

McHale joins the returning Neve Campbell, who returns to her role as Sidney Prescott after sitting out the last instalment, alongside franchise mainstay Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. Isabel May (1883) has also been cast as the daughter of Sidney, and – presumably – McHale’s character.

Scream 7 is being directed by Kevin Williamson, creator and screenwriter of Wes Craven’s 1996 original, who stepped into the director’s chair after a creative overhaul that saw the departure of original director Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day) and Scream reboot final girls Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega.

In addition to Campbell, Cox and McHale, Scream 7 will see the return of Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown from the last two films, while other new additions include Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, and Anna Camp. The film is currently in production, and set for release on February 27th 2026.
