It looks like Ryan Gosling could be set for a trip to the galaxy far, far away, as Deadline is reporting that the Barbie star is in talks to join the cast of Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy’s as-yet-untitled Star Wars movie.
Levy, who is riding high after the blockbuster success of his Ryan Reynolds/Hugh Jackman Marvel combo last year, was first announced as developing a Star Wars film back in late 2022 and has since been working on the script with his The Adam Project co-writer Jonathan Tropper. Gosling is the first actor to be linked with the project.
As with most things Star Wars, details on Levy’s plans for the film are a closely guarded secret, although the filmmaker has previously called it a “standalone experience”, stating back in August of last year that: “There’s only so many times that Star Wars movies can revisit the same section of the timeline. I don’t want to do a Star Wars film that is redundant to others, nor am I interested in doing one that has to serve another movie.”
There are several Star Wars feature film projects in the works at Lucasfilm, although so far only Jon Favreau’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu has a confirmed release date of May 22nd 2026. There is however an as-yet-unrevealed Star Wars movie dated for December 17th 2027, which Levy’s film will presumably fill if it is indeed now at the casting stage.
