Jon Bernthal has landed one of his most prominent roles to date in what’s shaping up to be the blockbuster of 2026.
It’s reported by Deadline that Bernthal is set to take on Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, an adaptation of an epic poem composed by Homer.
“Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey, is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology,” the studio said at the time. “The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to Imax film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.”
Believed to have been written around the 8th century B.C., The Odyssey follows the Greek hero Odysseus. It details his long journey home to Ithaca following the events of the Trojan War, as detailed in Homer’s Illiad.
Bernthal’s role is unknown at the time of writing. The actor joins an all-star cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron.
The Odyssey is expected to start shooting next month. Jon Bernthal will next appear in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, reprising his Marvel role as Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher.
