And so it has come to pass that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been officially renewed for a third season over at Prime Video.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the third run of the Tolkien television series is already in pre-production, with filming set to get underway at the show’s new home of Shepperton Studios in the United Kingdom.
With the second season finale airing in October 2025, bringing to a close a run of episodes that was largely considered an improvement on the lavish first season, fans had been waiting for an update, and now they have one that includes the news that The Rings of Power will execute a time jump of several years.
The official logline for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3 reads: “Jumping forward several years from the events of season 2, season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.”
Prime Video also announced the directorial line-up for the third run of episodes, with Shogun‘s Charlotte Brandstrom returning, along with The Wheel of Time‘s Sanaa Hamri. The newcomer to the fellowship of filmmakers is The Boys‘ Stefan Schwartz.
