Peacock and A24’s Friday the 13th television series Crystal Lake hasn’t fared much better than its big screen counterpart when it comes to getting off the ground; the series was originally announced back in 2022 from Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller, only for Fuller’s take to be axed – or rather, macheted – two years on in favour of a “retooling” under Brad Caleb Kane, showrunner of the upcoming It prequel series Welcome to Derry.
Well, a few months on from Kane’s appointment, it seems the project could be about to make a key casting with Jeff Sneider of The Insneider reporting that Linda Cardellini (Scooby-Doo, Dead to Me) is in talks to portray Pamela Voorhees, mother of the franchise’s iconic masked killer Jason Voorhees – and the series’ original killer, as portrayed by Betsy Palmer in the original 1980 film.
Details on Crystal Lake are being kept under wraps, but it has been confirmed that A24 have somehow managed to navigate the complicated web of Friday the 13th rights to secure all aspects of the franchise, including the adult version of Jason who wouldn’t make his debut until the 1981 sequel before donning his iconic hockey mask the following year in Friday the 13th Part III.

Cardinelli is the first name to be linked to this revamped Crystal Lake, with Fuller’s version reportedly having eyed Charlize Theron for the role of the murderous mother, in what was said to have been intended as a reimagined four-season take on the first four films in a movie franchise that has remained dormant since the 2009 remake. As yet, the actress’ casting remains unconfirmed, but hopefully we’ll get some official news soon.
