This summer marks the 20th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, the final film of the Prequel Trilogy depicting Anakin Skywalker’s fall to the Dark Side and his transformation into the iconic Darth Vader. To celebrate the occasion, Lucasfilm will re-release the film for one week only in April in select theatres around the world.
Released in 2005, Revenge of the Sith completed George Lucas’ Star Wars prequels and starred Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala. The film followed Obi-Wan and Anakin during the final days of the Clone Wars as Anakin’s relationship with Supreme Chancellor Palpatine grew, unknowingly resulting in the extermination of the Jedi Order and his own fall from grace.
Revenge of the Sith has often been hailed as not only the best of the prequels, but one of the best entries in the Star Wars saga. Both McGregor and Christensen are fan-favourites for Star Wars fans and recently reprised their roles in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi with Christensen also making an appearance as Anakin in Ahsoka.
The re-release will begin on April 25th for one week only in select theatres in several formats including 4DX screens. Lucasfilm commissioned a new poster from Matt Ferguson, depicting several of the film’s iconic moments as Darth Vader’s mask looms large on the poster.
