With the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale set to premiere in April, major strides have been taken for The Testaments, a sequel series based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel. The Testaments will be led by Chase Infiniti (Presumed Innocent) and Lucy Halliday (Blue Jean) with Ann Dowd reprising her Handmaid‘s role as Aunt Lydia.
The Testaments takes place in the dystopian theocracy of Gilead more than 15 years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale. The story follows the lives of three women, The Handmaid’s Tale‘s Aunt Lydia (Dowd), Agnes (Infiniti) and Daisy (Halliday), whose fates become intertwined as they uncover the secrets of Gilead and the resistance against its regime.
Infiniti will play Agnes, who is the daughter of Elisabeth Moss’ June in The Handmaid’s Tale, while Halliday is Daisy, a young Canadian teen whose life is turned upside down when she learns of her connection to the Republic of Gilead.
The Testaments is created and showrun by Handmaid’s Bruce Miller, who will executive produce alongside Warren Littlefiend of The Littlefield Company and MGM Television. Moss is being looked at to reprise June in a guest role as June shares a connection with Agnes and Daisy, though her potential involvement has not been finalized yet.
Production is expected to begin in Toronto at the end of the month.
