HBO and DC Studios’ upcoming Green Lantern series Lanterns has made a new addition to its cast. Joining Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) and Kyle Chandler (Godzilla: King of the Monsters) in the series is Jason Ritter (Parenthood).
Ritter will star as Billy Macon, “a good-looking charmer who does his father’s (Garret Dillahunt) bidding. Capitalizing on his family’s reputation, he clings to his small-town ego and has everything to lose.”
Lanterns will follow the legendary Green Lantern Hal Jordan as he reluctantly mentors new recruit John Stewart as the duo embark on an investigation into an Earth-based murder “which leads them to darker mysteries and reckonings.”
Chris Mundy (True Detective) is serving as showrunner on Lanterns and executive producing alongside Damon Lindelof (Lost) and celebrated DC Comics writer Tom King. Currently in production, Lanterns is expected to be a part of DC Studios upcoming film universe that will begin this summer with James Gunn’s Superman followed by Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow which is based on the comic by King.
Alongside Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, the cast of Lanterns includes Garrett Dillahunt (Where The Crawdads Sing) as William Macon, Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire) as Sheriff Kelly, Poorna Jagannathan (Never Have I Ever) as Zoe and Ulrich Thomsen (The New Pope) as the iconic DC villain and Green Lantern nemesis Sinestro.
