The latest free update, Nightmares and Visions, is now available for Fatshark’s Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. This new update introduces a new wave-based activity, an overhaul to the Ogryn Talent Tree, a limited time event, improvements to the end-game mode and more. The new Mortis Trials are a wave-based feature that will have players fighting through waves of enemies in visions induced by the ship’s Psyker, Sefoni. Players who attempt these visions will be able to create new playstyles by selecting from random abilities and buffs that will last the duration of the trial. Before the trial begins, players will choose an Indulgence that will offer unique buffs to enhance combat, these include Pyrokinetic, Voltaic, Fulminator – all of which do elemental damage, Death Dealer for close-quarters, and Colossus for survivability.
Each battle in the trials consists of 12 waves of enemies, with every third wave featuring an objective that needs completing and by successfully completing a trial rewarding players with a memory echo, providing access to information on the main characters on the Mourningstar.
Havoc mode has had a refresh to make progression clearer and more rewarding, with everyone participating in a mission being able to rank up providing they meet the new progression criteria. There will also be a rotation system for missions and mutators to prevent this demanding game mode from going stale.
Havoc mode has also seen the addition of four new mutators:
- Heinous Rituals – disrupt the heretics to prevent them from summoning a new kind of Daemonhost, or face the consequences.
- The Encroaching Garden – specific enemies will heal their allies. Locate and kill them before they regenerate the heretics.
- Rampaging Enemies – fallen enemies give their allies a boost of strength, requiring tactical planning to avoid being overwhelmed.
- Enraging Elites – injured Elites will become enraged, boosting their attack and movement speed, and giving them immunity to crowd control effects.
The Ogryn Talent Tree has been overhauled to enable players to create more viable melee builds. Players will now start to be able to create stronger tank and support characters, as well as improving ranged effectiveness. Melee builds are no longer locked into heavy attacks and have access to light and heavy strikes, ranged players will find a reworked Burst Limiter and tank players have more scope for their playstyle. There are also additional talents for hybrid playstyles, providing rewards for those who use both melee and ranged combat. Players will also find that movement and survivability have been improved, with dodging now staggering enemies.
Last, but by no means least, a new time-limited event called ‘A Day At The Theatre’ is available. This event focuses on the Mortis Trials and will see players challenged in the theatre of the mind of the ship’s Psyker.
