The Green Lanterns will face a new enemy in HBO’s upcoming DCU series Lanterns. Per Deadline, Paul Ben-Victor (The Wire) has joined the series in a recurring role as what seems to be an antagonist to Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler’s John Stewart and Hal Jordan.
Lanterns will follow Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart, who find themselves embroiled in an Earth-based mystery sparked by a murder in Nebraska. Ben-Victor will play Antaan, “an extraterrestrial devoted to exposing the truth and exacting vengeance against those who wronged his people. Consumed by a deep and unrelenting hatred for the law, he is determined to deliver justice on his own terms.”
Showrunning and executive producing Lanterns is Chris Mundy (True Detective) alongside Damon Lindelof (Lost) and celebrated DC Comics writer Tom King. Currently in production for an eight-episode first season, Lanterns is a part of DC Studios’ upcoming film universe that will begin this summer with James Gunn’s Superman.
To further show Lanterns takes place within this new shared cinematic DC universe, Nathan Fillion will also reprise his Superman role as Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the series.
Starring alongside Pierre and Chandler is Garrett Dillahunt (Where The Crawdads Sing) as William Macon, Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire) as Sheriff Kelly, Poorna Jagannathan (Never Have I Ever) as Zoe, Sherman Augustus (Stranger Things) and J. Alphonse Nicholson (P-Valley) as John Senior, Jasmine Cephas Jones (Blindspotting) as Bernadette Stewart and Ulrich Thomsen (The New Pope) as Sinestro with Nathon Fillion reprising his Superman role as Green Lantern Guy Gardner.
Lanterns is slated to air on Max in early 2026.
