Harry Styles and Fionn Whitehead join Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk

March 11, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that One Direction singer Harry Styles has signed on for a role in Christopher Nolan’s World War II action adventure Dunkirk, having impressed Nolan and his wife and producing partner Emma Thomas during an extensive casting search.

Dunkirk will mark Styles’ first feature film role, having passed on the opportunity to appear in Justin Chadwick’s new film Tulip Fever. However, it has also been rumoured that he’s set to appear in the second season of Scream Queens, which will get underway later this year.

Meanwhile, unknown British actor Fionn Whitehead (Him) has also joined the war epic, in what is said to be one of two lead roles in the film.

Dunkirk will focus on Operation Dynamo, the operation to evacuate 330,000 Allied soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk in 1940. Tom Hardy (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises), Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies) and Kenneth Branagh (Wallander) are all attached to star.
