Coo-ee! The Scottish nanny (or should that be manny?) is making a comeback after more than 20 years. Robin Williams has finally given in and will don the fake boobs and hair rollers once again. This is good news right? Is it? With all the announced sequels, prequels, remakes and reboots of late it’s been hard to process exactly which ones are good ideas and which ones are just plain stupid, but I’m staying positive about this one. The Mrs Doubtfire sequel has actually been in the works for almost ten years but with no script approved and Robin Williams not committing to a return, it’s basically just been sitting there waiting for the right time. Well according to The Hollywood Reporter it seems that Fox 2000 believe now is the time for a follow up.
Back in 1993 when the movie was released it grossed a massive $222 million worldwide, which was huge numbers back then for a fairly small family comedy like this. Robin Williams also picked up a Golden Globe for his portrayal as the titular character. David Berenbaum (Elf, The Spiderwick Chronicles) is currently drafting a script and Chris Columbus is set to return to the directors chair. There’s currently no additional information to report and no production dates have been revealed. Chris Columbus is about to start work on Pixels with Adam Sandler which begins shooting this summer so it’s likely things won’t start moving forward until 2015.
