UPDATE: We’ve been having a little fun this morning. Like the very best “hot rumour” sites, we made this up. Apologies.
It looks like Paul Feig will soon be swapping the Ghostbusters franchise for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the director in line to helm 2019’s Captain Marvel movie.
According to the ever-reliable Latino-Rumour, the Bridesmaids and Spy helmer is currently in advanced negotiations with Disney and Marvel Studios, and an official announcement is expected any time soon.
Feig has apparently impressed the studio with his pitch for Carol Danvers’ big screen debut, which will reportedly jettison the current script by Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman in favour of a new draft by the director and his frequent collaborator Kate Dippold.
Details are scarce, but it’s said that Feig’s Captain Marvel will up the comedy quota, whilst presenting a rehash of Marvel’s earlier superhero origin stories, albeit with a female lead.
At this point, it’s unclear which role Melissa McCarthy will play.
