Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks to reunite for Cold War thriller?

April 21, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Over the weekend it was revealed that Steven Spielberg has added the religious drama The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara to his upcoming slate, and now Variety is reporting that a potential reunion between Spielberg and Tom Hanks could be on the cards for an as-yet-untitled Cold War thriller.

According to the site, Hanks has signed on to star in the film, which Spielberg is looking to direct for DreamWorks, and the two-time Oscar winner would play “James Donovan, a prominent American attorney enlisted by the CIA during the Cold War to slip behind the iron curtain to negotiate the release of a pilot captured when his U-2 spy plane was shot down over Russia.”

Should the film go ahead, it would mark a fourth collaboration between Spielberg and Hanks after Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal. However, Spielberg is yet to fully commit to his next directorial effort, and also has the sci-fi Robopocalypse and historical drama Montezuma as possibilities.
