Batman v Superman overtakes Deadpool at the worldwide box office, now ninth-highest grossing superhero movie

April 10, 2016 by Gary Collinson

It may have been knocked from the top of the domestic box office by Melissa McCarthy’s latest film The Boss, but Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has overtaken the worldwide haul of 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool this weekend, having grossed $783.5 million compared to the Merc with a Mouth’s $758.8 million.

Despite coming out on top globally, it remains to be seen whether Batman v Superman will surpass the X-Men spinoff in North America, where it would need to make another $62 million to catch Deadpool’s whopping $358 million haul.

Batman v Superman has also climbed above The Amazing Spider-Man ($757.9 million) and Guardians of the Galaxy ($773.3 million) to become the ninth-highest grossing superhero movie of all time, and is only $300,000 shy of catching Spider-Man 2 to climb to eighth.
