Warner Bros. enlists Alfonso Cuaron to help with Andy Serkis’ Jungle Book movie

April 21, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Faced with the critical and commercial success of Disney and director Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book, Warner Bros. has now enlisted some Oscar-winning assistance for its own take on the Rudyard Kipling classic.

According to Deadline, the studio has brought in Gravity helmer Alfonso Cuaron to offer notes on the movie, and to see if there any any improvements that can be made following the recent decision to push back the release an entire year.

The movie, which was titled Jungle Book: Origins but now seems to be going by the title Jungle Book, will mark the directorial debut of Andy Serkis. However, insiders are stressing that Cuaron “is a friend to the studio” and he is not being brought in to take over the reins from Serkis.

Jungle Book sees Serkis as Baloo alongside Rohan Chand (The Hundred-Foot Journey) as Mowgli, Christian Bale (Knight of Cups) as Bagheera, Cate Blanchett (Cinderella) as Kaa, Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) cast as Shere Khan, Peter Mullan (Hercules) as Akela, Naomie Harris (Skyfall) as Nisha, Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) as Vihaan, Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction) as Brother Wolf, Tom Hollander (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) as Tabaqui and Matthew Rhys (The Americans) as John Lockwood. it is set for release on October 19th 2018.
