In this edition of The Week in Star Wars, we’ve got more cameo rumours, news on Battlefront 2, a review of Star Wars: Bloodline and more…
We’re kicking things off this week with some more rumours surrounding cameos for Star Wars: Episode VIII. A couple of weeks back we heard that Prince William and Prince Harry would feature as Stormtroopers in the movie, and a new claim this week is that Tom Hard (Mad Max: Fury Road) will also play one. The rumour comes from Making Star Wars – who are very good with their scoops – and it sounds like this cameo will be a lot like Daniel Craig’s in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. …Sticking with Episode VIII for the moment and its star John Boyega is promising a darker movie than Star Wars: The Force Awakens. “Rian Johnson is great,” he said. “It’s a different take, darker, bigger. Someone will say: ‘How do you get bigger than Force Awakens?’ But it’s crazy.” He also talked about a potential relationship between Finn and Rey. “We didn’t establish a romance in seven; we never played it that way,” he adds. “Finn and Rey – they’re just friends. Finn is a stormtrooper, so he doesn’t really know what’s going on. So the romance thing is something that’s going to be interesting in the next instalment. It’s not going to go the way you think it’s going to go…”

…If you were a fan of Star Wars Battlefront [read our review from its release here], then you’re in luck. EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen revealed during an earnings call today that Star Wars Battlefront 2 is in the works and will have “bigger and better worlds.” While the first Star Wars Battlefront game only features content from the original trilogy of movies, Jorgensen revealed that the sequel will use content from the new movies, though didn’t specify which. Jorgensen also revealed that EA plans to release a new Star Wars game every year for the next three to four years, stating that Battlefront 2 will come out “next year”, however whether or not he meant calendar or fiscal year is unclear…
…If you’ve been itching to play out the climactic duel between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader from The Empire Strikes Back with your LEGO minifigures but the 2003 Cloud City set just wasn’t quite cutting it, then you may be interested in a new LEGO Ideas proposal from szabomate90, who has meticulously recreated the iconic scene with the ‘I Am Your Father’ concept set. …And to close off this week, we’ve got some sad news for fans of Star Wars: Darth Vader as it has been announced that the ongoing solo series will be coming to an end this August with issue #25. “It was a situation where, you know, we’ve always said all the way through, from Darth Vader #1, that this was a story with a beginning, a middle and an end,” writer Kieron Gillen says. “And we kind of looked where we were after Vader Down, and we realized we were probably actually nearer to the end than we thought we were. And it was a situation where we were like, “Okay, it’s better to actually end this story in a way which we think is the most effective. We don’t want to pad it out extraneously.” That was the kind of thing, we were like, “Oh yeah, this is the end of this particular story,” in which case it’s a natural place for Vader to move on.”
