Despite previous reports suggesting otherwise, sources close to Deadline have now confirmed that Noomi Rapace will be reprising her role from 2012’s Prometheus as Elizabeth Shaw for 2017’s sequel, Alien: Covenant. According to the outlet, the actress is currently on the set of the film in Australia, where she will shoot “weeks worth of scenes.” The size of her role is unknown at the time.
Back in August 2012, when 20th Century Fox announced they’d be making a sequel due to the moderate success of Prometheus, Rapace was on board to come back. Earlier this year, however, fans were led to believe that Rapace wouldn’t make an appearance after director Ridley Scott (Alien) confirmed such news in an interview. That story was further cemented when the film’s ensemble was unveiled and she wasn’t listed among the many names.

Rapace’s exclusion from the cast never made a whole lot of sense, especially considering that Shaw and Michael Fassbender’s David were the only Prometheus crew members that survived the events of Prometheus, and Fassbender has been attached to the project continuously for about four years. Regardless, it will certainly be interesting to see what happened to the pair during the ten years in between the end of Prometheus and beginning of Covenant.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Alien: Covenant is set for release on August 4th, 2017 and is penned by Michael Green, Jack Paglen and John Logan. Joining Rapace and Fassbender will be such new cast additions as Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down), Demian Bichir (A Better Life), Billy Crudup (Watchmen), Jussie Smollett (Empire), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), Benjamin Rigby (That’s Not Me) and Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills).
