Game of Thrones’ Miguel Sapochnik to direct Sinbad movie

October 22, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Sinbad the Sailor looks set for a return to the big screen, with THR reporting that Studio 8 has won a bidding war for a new live-action fantasy, which is being scripted by Kyle Killen (Lone Star) and has Game of Thrones helmer Miguel Sapochnik (Battle of the Bastards, The Winds of Winter) attached to direct.

“Sinbad was a rare comprehensive and engaging pitch which lends itself to an international audience and big visual set pieces but also distinct and unique actor roles for a diverse cast of characters,” said Studio 8 in an official statement. “This project is part of Studio 8’s ongoing commitment to working closely with filmmakers on the re-imagination of genres.”

Sinbad’s tale feature as part of One Thousand and One Nights, and follow the Baghdad sailor as he embarks on fantastic adventures and quests across seven fantastic voyages. The stories have spawned numerous film, TV and animated adaptations, including 1958’s The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, and the 2003 animated movie Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, which saw Brad Pitt lending his voice to the character.
