Ezra Miller on the relationship between Barry Allen and Bruce Wayne in Justice League, and the director situation on The Flash

November 8, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Ezra Miller is currently out an about on the promotional campaign for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but naturally a big topic of conversation has been the DC Extended Universe.

Speaking to IGN, Miller has discussed the relationship between his character Barry Allen (a.k.a. The Flash) and Ben Affleck’s Batman in next year’s Justice League:

“I think it’s the relationship between someone who is naive and excited and someone who is experienced and jaded, and it’s that seeing each other as reflections of one another and being amused and maybe sometimes annoyed by one another,” said Miller. “I think Bruce and Barry get a kick out of each other because they’re seeing sort of themselves but reflected in this very warped mirror. Bruce, the aged Batman, is everything that being a superhero means you could become, in terms of being pretty shut down and having seen all this horror. He’s like a veteran of this struggle against evil. And Barry is just getting into it, and it seems exciting! And very fun! And so, I think they have a lot to learn from each other, like in any great friendship. I think it’s a fascinating relationship.”

Meanwhile, Miller also spoke to Collider about the Scarlet Speedster’s upcoming solo movie, which has just recently lost director Rick Famuyiwa, who was himself a replacement for Seth Grahame-Smith, with both directors departing the project due to creative differences with Warner Bros.:

“We don’t know right now [who the director will be], but I think we’ll start this year, I think it’s coming up pretty quick. These processes are complicated, and I think it can-from afar-appear to be, as you say, something interpersonal or dramatic. That is rarely the case. These are groups of people taking the development of projects extremely seriously, and the teams are changing all the time. There’s often a lot of flux in who the team of the production of a film is before that production starts, and in this case, you hear about it, because it’s a critical figure – the directors that have been coming on and leaving. or me, it’s sort of a tragic relay race, and we’ve had a couple really incredible people carry this baton, and their marks are left on that baton, and the work that they’ve given to the project will certainly be represented in whatever the final product comes to be.”

Justice League is set for release on November 17th 2017, with The Flash currently slated to arrive on March 16th 2018, although it has been suggested that date could be pushed back due to Famuyiwa’s exit.
