As the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gears up to announce the nominations for the 89th Academy Awards next month, it has been announced that nine films remain in contention for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

Germany, “Toni Erdmann,” Maren Ade
Iran, “The Salesman,” Asghar Farhadi
Norway, “The King’s Choice,” Erik Poppe
Russia, “Paradise,” Andrei Konchalovsky
Sweden, “A Man Called Ove,” Hannes Holm
Switzerland, “My Life as a Zucchini,” Claude Barras
The nine films have been selected from 85 submissions from around the globe and the shortlist will be whittled down to five for the nominations, which are set to be announced on January 24th.
The 89th Academy Awards takes place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on February 26th.
