Frank Darabont to direct Kristen Stewart-less Snow White and the Huntsman spinoff

June 27, 2014 by James Garcia

The 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman was a success for Universal Pictures, and took home a healthy $396 million at the box office. A sequel was quickly greenlit, but then star Kristen Stewart and director Rupert Sanders were caught in a bit of a sex scandal that derailed things for a bit. Sanders was quickly fired from the follow-up, but the studio emphatically claimed that Stewart would remain in the titular role.

Well, according to THR, the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel will apparently focus solely on the Huntsman, played by Chris Hemsworth, and The Walking Dead executive producer Frank Darabont is in talks to direct.

The film is simply titled The Huntsman, and is described as a spin-off of the first movie. No other details are given, but it sounds like Darabont beat Warrior director Gavin O’Connor for the directing job. Now that two years have passed since the first film arrived, and with Hemsworth’s star on the rise, Universal will likely want Darabont to start work on The Huntsman soon, so we’ll keep you posted on new details as they come in.

In the meantime, what do you think of this news? Are you happy to hear that Kristen Stewart won’t be back for another tale as Snow White? Sound off in the comments
