We were told by director David Cronenberg that it wasn’t happening, but apparently things have changed as the sequel to Eastern Promises is due to start shooting in the spring.
The follow up to the uber violent Russian mob thriller starring Viggo Mortensen, released back in 2007, has been gestating for a very long time, but now things are finally back on track.
According to a post on casting site My Entertainment World, the sequel title Body Cross is a direct follow up to the orginal revenge flick and will start shooting in March 2017.
The film picks back with up Mortensen’s Nikolai but this time he will be revealed to be a “clandestine agent working undercover in Russia’s federal security service”.
Writer of Eastern Promises Steven Knight – now of Peaky Blinders and Taboo fame – has been trying for years to get the film up and running. Well, it looks like he finally got his wish.
Those unfamiliar with Eastern Promises can expect lots of blood, tattoos and thick Russian accents. If all that sounds great then make sure to watch this space.
