According to actor Boyd Holbrook, The Predator will not be a sequel and may not feature any cameo from Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Predator is one of those franchises, like Terminator, Robocop, and Alien, that is never likely to die. The film has spawned numerous sequels and offspring at this point, but fans are still excited to see what Shane Black will do with his take.
In an interview with We Got this Covered, The Predator actor Boyd Holbrook spoke about the film and declared the flick would not be another sequel, more of a new take on things, and that we shouldn’t be shocked if Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn’t make an appearance.
“I’m currently working on Predator,” said Holbrook. “It’s not a sequel; Shane Black has made something totally new, somehow keeping within the realm of Predator [while also being] absolutely new in terms of the story that we’re talking about today, and rooted in something real. It’s real fresh. I don’t think you’re going to see [Arnold] Schwarzenegger. It would kind of make it a gimmick. It’s horror, science-fiction and a western.”
This is probably welcome news to some and the opposite to others, but what fans can all agree on is the genre specified by Holbrook here. The Predator needs to be scary and if it has a western tinged feel to its Sci-Fi elements, all the better.
Shane Black is due to start shooting on The Predator next week. The cast includes Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Jacob Tremblay (Room) Sterling K. Brown (This is Us, The People v. O.J. Simpson), Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele) and Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), and the film is currently set for a February 9th, 2018 release.
