The cast of the Peter Jackson-produced Mortal Engines is starting to fill out after additional recruits come onboard.
When Guillermo del Toro dropped out of directing The Hobbit in what feels like forever ago, the status of Mortal Engines seemed dubious as Peter Jackson had to take up The Hobbit reins, putting the sci-fi adaptation on the back-burner.
Now Jackson’s protégé Christian Rivers has taken on the task of bringing Mortal Engines to life with Jackson producing the first entry in a planned series along with his familiar partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boynes.
In February, Mortal Engines found its lead actress in Hera Hilmar and now the movie has added Stephen Lang, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, as “one of the most powerful men in London society and one who is trying to get his hands on a weapon of mass destruction”.
Along with Lang, South Korean singer/actress Jihae and newcomer Leila George have joined the party.
Mortal Engines is set in a world thousands of years in the future where Earth’s cities roam the globe on huge wheels, devouring each other in a struggle for ever diminishing resources.
