Todd McFarlane says his Spawn reboot will be “dark” and “nasty”

March 12, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Todd McFarlane has been talking up his planned Spawn reboot for several years now, although it appears to be moving through development at a snail’s pace and never really seems any closer to becoming a reality.

The last we heard from McFarlane back in December, he was hoping to direct the movie himself with a small $10 million budget, and speaking at the Emerald City Comic-Con in Seattle (via MovieWeb), McFarlane has now offered up a few words on the tone that he’s gone for with his script.

“Listen, I’m going to paint it for you. The movie is going to be a dark R,” he said. “If here’s PG-13 and here’s Deadpool and here’s Logan, we’re going to be here. It’s going to be dark. It’s going to be nasty.”

Given that 20th Century Fox have shown with Deadpool and Logan that audiences are receptive to R-rated comic book movies, it would be a surprise if there isn’t a studio out there willing to take a punt on Spawn, especially given the low budget. That being said, can a $10 million budget really do Spawn justice? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
