Despite reaching its eighth instalment, the Fast & Furious franchise shows no signs of slowing down, with box office tracking for The Fate of the Furious predicting a whopping global opening weekend of between $375 million and $440 million.
Should it break the $400 million mark, it would surpass the franchise’s current record set by Fast & Furious 7, which grossed $397.7 million back in 2015. That would also place it as Universal’s second biggest debut of all time behind another 2015 release, Jurassic World, which opened to a $525 million global haul.
Even if The Fate of the Furious ends up on the low end of tracking, it will see the series reaching a new box office milestone as it passed $4 billion in worldwide grosses, with the previous seven films having amassed just over $3.9 billion in total.
