In tragic news, comedian Charlie Murphy has passed away at the age of 57 after a battle with leukaemia.
While brother to famed comedian Eddie Murphy, it would be a mistake to simply refer to him as “Eddie Murphy’s brother”. Comedian, actor, and writer… Charlie Murphy was a man of many talents, who was perhaps best known as being part of the legendary Dave Chappelle skits “True Hollywood Stories with Charlie Murphy”.
In these mockumentaries, Charlie Murphy would regale viewers with bizarre tales experienced while living the life of fame, and fortune alongside his brother. These are the skits that taught us the Rick James slap, that cocaine is a “hell of a drug”, and made us bafflingly aware of Prince’s basketball skills, and extreme love for pancakes:
Losing Charlie Murphy is a big blow to the world of comedy. Many people (including this writer) thought Charlie was a far superior talent to his brother, and often outshone Dave Chappelle on his own show. His stand-up comedy specials were an endless source of laughter. Charlie Murphy’s legacy will live on in the memories of everyone who grew up with his special, brilliant, and often underappreciated sense of humor. Rest in peace, Charlie.
