Back in April it was revealed that Steven Spielberg had signed on to direct an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s tale The BFG, and now eOne Films has officially announced the film, which will arrive in 2016, marking the centenary of Dahl’s birth.
“The world’s number one storyteller in books, the world’s number one storyteller in film, come together in the centenary year of Roald Dahl’s birth for the film of the summer,” said Alex Hamilton, Managing Director of eOne Films UK. “The BFG has caught our golden phizzwizard and is set to deliver it into the hearts and minds of everyone in the UK in 2016. This will be a GIANT film in every sense of the word.”
Spielberg is directed from a script by Melissa Mathison (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial) and the film is set to open in the States on July 1st 2016, followed by a UK release on July 22nd 2016.
