According to THR, Richie Mehta (Siddharth, Amal) has signed on to direct Jay Baruchel (Goon: Last of the Enforcers) in Baseballissimo, an indie drama about a minor-league pitcher on an Italian baseball team.
The film has been written by Baruchel and his wiring partner Jesse Chabot (Random Acts of Violence) and originally had Jacob Tierney attached to direct and Anton Yelchin set for the lead role of Kyle Buffone, a rising minor-league baseball player who gets detoured on the way to major-league stardom by pitching for the Peones, a team in Italy.
The project was put on hold following Yelchin’s untimely death last year, but is now moving forward, and the search is underway for an actor to take on the lead. It is being shopped to potential buyers at Cannes this month.
