Despite the fact that Baywatch has been near-universally panned by critics and find it tough going at the box office during its opening weekend, it seems that Paramount Pictures is already looking towards a potential sequel for the big screen reboot of the hugely-popular 90s TV series.
“We have an amazing story already,” producer Beau Flynn tells Variety. “We’re bringing back [screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift] who wrote on the first one, and I know Dwayne Johnson would be in, I know Zac Efron and all the girls would be. We just have this really cool idea to put them in this whole new world. We would take it overseas.”
Variety also spoke to stars Kelly Rohrbach and Alexandra Daddario, both of whom responded enthusiastically when asked if they’d like to return for a second outing.

Fans may not want to get too excited over the prospect of a sequel just yet however, as the film isn’t exactly making waves at the box office, where it’s facing stiff competition from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Baywatch is being forecast for a domestic opening weekend in the region of $30 million, which will likely be seen as a disappointment by Paramount given the film’s $69 million production budget and hefty marketing costs.
BAYWATCH follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Zac Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.
Baywatch sees Dwayne Johnson (Fast & Furious 7) leading a cast that also includes Zac Efron (Dirty Grandpa), Alexandra Daddario (San Andreas), Kelly Rohrbach (Two and a Half Men), Priyanka Chopra (Quantico), Jon Bass (Big Tim in Hollywood, FL), Hannibal Buress (Daddy’s Home), Belinda (The Cheetah Girls 2) and Ilfenesh Hadera (Billions).
