Comic book legend and hero Stan Lee spoke at the weekend’s London Film and Comic Con event and, as you’d image, he had quite a bit to say. When asked who he would like to see direct a Marvel movie, he pointed to Clerks director Kevin Smith. The two have worked together on Smith’s Mallrats in which Lee had a cameo and Smith interviewed him for documentary Stan Lee’s Mutants, Monsters & Marvels.
Lee said he would do a “great job” and then explained: “He’s the ‘fella who did the movie Mallrats years ago. My first starring vehicle! Kevin knows the comics as well as anybody – I don’t know why Marvel doesn’t hire him to do one of their movies. Maybe they will.”
Stan Lee also appeared in an episode of Smith’s Comic Book Men on AMC. Smith has written several titles for Marvel over the years including Daredevil and Spider-Man/Black Cat.
Lee also told the audience what his favourite Marvel cameos were, “the one I did where I was the librarian and I was playing music while Spider-Man was having a life or death battle with the Lizard, [and] the time they wouldn’t let me into the Fantastic Four’s wedding because they didn’t believe I was who I was.”
Do you agree with Stan Lee? Would Kevin Smith be a good fit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
