According to Deadline, Nicolas Cage has signed on to star in the action thriller Mandy, which is being directed by Panos Cosmatos (Beyond the Black Rainbow).
Set to begin production this summer in Belgium, the film takes place in 1983 and will see Cage as Red Miller, a broken and haunted man out for revenge against an unhinged religious sect who slaughtered the love of his life.
“Panos is one of the most vital young filmmakers alive, a pop-culture Kubrick in the making,” said Daniel Noah of SpectreVision. “Nicolas Cage is a veritable god to those of us who grew up watching his classic performances. Bringing these two together for this surrealist, heavy-metal-soaked story of battle axes and demon bikers is unfathomably exciting to us.”
Cage has several projects incoming this year, including The Humanity Bureau, Mom and Dad, Looking Glass and Inconceivable. He is also currently in production on the action thriller #211.
