It seemed all but certain that William Fichtner (The Dark Knight) would be playing Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the actor confirmed this news in June last year), but a report from Screen Rant seems to suggest that we may have been led down the garden path.
The site was able to see two complete scenes from the movie at previews and their report claims that William Fichtner is *not* Shredder and is in fact playing a character named Eric Sachs, a businessman who works with Shredder.
The report also made mention that the movie is “heavily based” on the 80s cartoon series rather than the comic book. Of course, this is two scenes out of context.
Screen Rant’s report also tells us that the scenes they saw were filled with jokes and light-hearted humour and there appears to be a running sub-plot of the Turtles fighting for April’s attention as they all have the hots for her.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set for release on August 8th in the States and on October 17th in the UK, and is directed by Jonathan Liebsman (Wrath of the Titans), produced by Michael Bay (Transformers: Age of Extinction) and features a cast that includes Megan Fox (Transformers) as April O’Neil, Pete Ploszek (Parks and Recreation) and Johnny Knoxville (Jackass Presents Bad Grandpa) as Leonardo, Alan Ritchson (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) as Raphael, Jeremy Howard (How the Grinch Stole Christmas) as Donatello, Noel Fisher (Battle Los Angeles) as Michaelangelo, Danny Woodburn (Seinfeld) and Tony Shalhoub (Monk) as Splinter, Will Arnett (The LEGO Movie) as Vernon Fenwick, Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost) as Bernadette Thompson, and K. Todd Freeman (The Dark Knight) as Baxter Stockman. Watch the latest trailer here.
