Legendary filmmaker John Carpenter is teaming up with Universal Cable Productions to develop the new TV project Tales for a Halloween Night, a scripted horror anthology series for Syfy based upon his award-winning graphic novel.
In addition, Carpenter and UCP are also working on an adaptation of Simon R. Green’s Nightside, a series of books which takes place in the “secret heart of London hidden in eternal darkness, where creatures of the night congregate and where the sun is afraid to shine.”
“I’m excited to partner with Universal Cable Productions on this venture into television,” said Carpenter. “On one hand, it’s a return home to Universal, where I have fond memories, and on the other, it’s a step into the future with great new creative partners in programming.”
“John Carpenter is an incredible creator whose dark imagination has left an indelible mark in film and in our dreams,” added UCP exec vp development Dawn Olmstead. “We are thrilled to have a master of the horror genre join UCP.”
In addition to the above series, Carpenter has recently signed on to executive produce a new instalment of the iconic Halloween franchise, which is being developed by David Gordon Green and Danny McBride and is said to be a sequel to the first two movies.
