Liam Hoofe takes a look at the best supporting characters in Rick and Morty…
Rick and Morty is awesome, we can all agree on that. What might not be so easy to agree on, though, is who is the best supporting character in the show. Over the last two and a bit seasons Rick and Morty have given us a hilarious array of characters from all corners of the galaxy and narrowing them to even 10 has been an extremely difficult task.
With season 3 back on our screens, the show has already debuted many memorable new characters but for now, let’s take a look at 10 of the show’s best-supporting characters from Rick and Morty’s first two seasons.
10: Krombopulous Michael
Intergalactic assassin for hire, and an all around nice guy, Krombopulous Michael makes his one and only appearance in Rick and Morty in the season 2 episode ‘Mortynight Run.’
Krombopulous Michael only appears in two scenes during the episode – the first one sees him buy an anti-matter gun from Rick in a parking lot, much to Morty’s dismay, and the second is where he is about to succeed in his quest to kill Jemaine Clement’s fart (that was a weird sentence to write), only for Morty to land on him in his space ship, killing the character off in the same episode he debuted in.
9: Scary Terry
Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland are great at parodying popular culture, and one of their finest moments comes in the second episode of the first season when they introduce us to Scary Terry. A clear parody of Freddy Kreuger, Scary Terry hunts the titular characters when they have gone several dreams deep into an Inception-like mission.
Terry attempts to kill Rick and Morty but is outsmarted when the pair decide to hide and not run in a hilarious twist on the old ‘you can run but you can’t hide’ cliche. Rick and Morty then end up going into Terry’s dream and befriending him before he helps them on their quest.
8: Abrodolf Lincler
Making his only appearance in the show in the season one finale ‘Ricksy Business’ Abrodolf Lincler is a humanoid experiment created by Rick in an attempt to create a morally superior world leader by mixing the DNA of Abraham Lincoln and Adolf Hitler.
The character only makes a brief appearance in the show, but his schizophrenic outbursts and existential struggles make for hilarious viewing and his death, which is both hilarious and weirdly touching, makes him one the most memorable supporting characters in the show’s history.
7: Tiny Rick
Okay, so technically Tiny Rick is just normal Rick in a different form for one episode but this is my list so, whatever. Tiny Rick is a clone version of Rick who Rick uses to infiltrate the kid’s school during season 2. Tiny Rick is everything normal Rick isn’t – he’s fun, outgoing, cool and loves spending time with his grandkids, he also has a habit of shouting ‘I’m Tiny Rick’ at random intervals.
Over the course of the episode, Tiny Rick becomes the most popular person in school, only to realise that life as a young person comes with its own type of problems. Rick’s darker side begins shining through too as the episode wears on and he is ultimately forced to return back to his old self – violently destroying Tiny Rick’s body at the end of the episode, much to the horror of his grandchildren.
6: Doofus Rick
Appearing in the episode ‘Close Rickcounters of the Rick-Kind’ Doofus Rick is different from the rest of the Ricks we meet throughout the show. Unlike our Rick, Rick C-137, Doofus Rick is, as his name would suggest, not a super genius and is often on the end of some pretty horrible bullying at the hands of the other Ricks.
Doofus Rick makes this list, though, for his hilarious relationship with Jerry. Both outcasts who are abused by Ricks, the two bond over Star Wars coins and make some brownies together in their brief time together, before they are ripped apart when Rick C-137 returns home. Doofus Rick does make an appearance at the end of the episode too, standing on the street in the rain staring into Jerry’s window in one of the show’s best post-credits scenes.
