Coinciding with the start of production on Bumblebee, Paramount Pictures has announced that WWE Superstar John Cena has signed on for a lead role in the Transformers spinoff.
According to the THR, the film “in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary yellow VW bug.”
Meanwhile, it’s also been announced that the film’s release date has been pushed back from June 22nd 2018 to December 21st 2018, where it will square off against Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe solo movie Aquaman.
Bumblebee is being directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) and features a cast that includes Hailee Steinfeld (The Edge of Seventeen), John Cena (Daddy’s Home), Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Jason Drucker (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul), Abby Quinn (Landline), Rachel Crow (Deidra & Laney Rob a Train), Ricardo Hoyos (Degrassi), Gracie Dzienny (Chasing Life) and Pamela Adlon (Better Things).
