Did you enjoy Atomic Blonde? Well, you may have John Wick to thank for that. While sitting down with the Bill Simmons podcast, Charlize Theron reveals that the John Wick series compelled her to take on the film, and bring aboard director David Leitch…
“I like those movies. It was actually because of the first one that I reached out to David Leitch, the director, he was one of the directors of the first John Wick. I am a huge fan of those films, and I think Keanu is incredible in that whole genre.”
It looks like John Wick may have opened up the floodgates, and reinvigorated the late ’80s/ early ’90s-style action genre, if Atomic Blonde is any indication. The film is reviewing relatively well so far, although our own review by Robert Kojder was lukewarm on it. Regardless of critical reception, one thing can’t be denied: Atomic Blonde makes for pretty damn good evidence that a female 007 could work. This film is probably the closest thing we have right now.
