There’s been talk of a live-action Jetsons for about as long as I can remember, and now it finally looks like it’s set to become a reality.
EW is reporting that ABC has placed a put pilot order for a live-action TV adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon, which is being written by Gary Janetti, who also executive produces alongside Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke.
Set 100 years into the future, the multi-camera comedy will “look at America’s favourite future family through a modern filter.” Given that it has a put pilot order, it’s very likely that The Jetsons will make it to series, or the network will face penalties.
The Jetsons originally ran on ABC between 1962 and 1963, with an animated feature Jetsons: The Movie released in 1990. A new animated movie is also in development at Warner Bros. under Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens, Sausage Party).
